Tomas moved from Porto to Higashiyama a decade ago and now reads Kyoto by neighbourhood, from the Philosopher's Path at dawn to the sub-temples visitors walk straight past. He builds two- and three-day routes that pair a headline sight with the machiya streets and gardens around it.
